Review

Without a doubt, Rio’s most famous hotel, the Copacabana Palace has a long history of attracting guests with deep pockets due to its impeccable service and lavish facilities. With one of its restaurants having just been awarded a Michelin star, there’s no doubt that this hotel is still at the top of its game.

Right on Copacabana Beach, this hotel has a privileged location in the heart of Rio. It’s a great location to people watch and take in the Carioca way of life. Outside of the hotel, the city’s best restaurants are a short taxi ride away.

The hotel has 226 rooms and suites, which are classically decorated with period furniture, marble bathrooms and modern touches such as iPod docks and Plasma TVs. Depending on the room category, rooms either face the city, the hotel’s swimming pool or Copacabana beach. To justify paying the prices of Copacabana Palace, we’d recommend staying in an Ocean View room and requesting a room with a Juliette balcony to make it truly worth it.

Upon entering the Copacabana Palace you are immediately met by a huge marbled lobby with elevators which take you up to the guest floors and high-ceilinged corridors leading off to the hotel’s outdoor pool, restaurants and library. The rooms themselves are either located in the 6 floors of the main building or within the 10-floor tower which overlooks the swimming pool.

There are numerous features to this hotel, which are designed to make their guests’ stay unique. For example, private dinners can be arranged within the library or within the Italian Hotel Cipriani Restaurant’s kitchen for a Chef’s table experience. Most impressively, the Hotel’s second restaurant, Mee, serves pan-Asian cuisine and has just been awarded a Michelin star. The hotel’s poolside Pérgula Restaurant is renowned for its Saturday lunchtime ‘feijoada’, and a visit to the hotel would not be complete without trying a cocktail at its famous Copacabana Piano Bar. The hotel also has its own area on the beach with loungers and waiters serving drinks and fresh fruit.

Prestigious hotel, great facilities, attentive staff.
