Deep in the Amazon Rainforest near Manaus and the Anavilhanas Archipelago, Mirante do Gavião or “the hawk’s lookout” is a new sustainably-designed ecolodge, offering exclusive accommodation and access to one of the most bio-diverse and ecologically important areas of the planet.

A new eco-friendly lodge on the banks of the Rio Negro, Mirante do Gavião is two and a half hours north of Manaus and close to the Anavilhanas natural reserve.

Built with natural materials, the lodge has been designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings and was inspired by the shape of local Amazonian riverboats. The seven curved, wooden suites and bungalows include two family tree houses sleeping up to six people, two deluxe suites with terraces and hot tubs for up to four people and three standard suites with private balconies and hammocks.

Set on the banks of the Rio Negro, the lodge has been built to make the most of the views of the Rio Negro and Anavilhanas archipelago. In addition to a riverside pier, it has an outdoor swimming pool, restaurant, lounge and a number of elevated lookouts for spotting birds, sloths and iguanas in the time between activities.

The lodge has a number of different activity programs ranging from one to four nights, which include visits to local Amazonian communities, the Anavilhanas National Park, canoeing, forest trails and interaction with pink dolphins. A stay at Mirante do Gavião can also be combined with programs aboard the Katerre riverboats.
